The Internet of Publicity, Bigotry, and Liberty

M.E. O'Neill on February 17, 2021February 17, 2021

I want to start this post by sharing my Daily Create kaleidoscope. This activity was engrossing, and I spent way too much time playing around with the program and trying out different colors. The little red dot in the middle of my finished product gives me 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes, and an AI gone rogue seems to fit the theme of NetNarr. I spent way too much time playing with this kaleidoscope painter. @ds106dc #tdc3323 #ds106 #netnarr pic.twitter.com/OyXHp8l0MQ— M.E. […]

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly and The Hope

teacheng on February 17, 2021

Kevin certainly has his hands full with this week’s readings. As soon as I read the title, I was instantly brought into the world of my favorite western. From the title alone I could feel the sun beating down on the dusty landscape. I could hear that iconic whistle, known to Clint Eastwood fans, blowing over the tumble weeds of what’s been going on across the Internet. This article presented plenty of Good, Bad and Ugly for me to […]

A Whole New World

sheilak on February 17, 2021

Danah Boyd mentioned some valid points in “The Internet of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. “ She and I grew up in the same era and I could relate to her experiences with the birth of the internet. In 1990, I was a freshman at Seton Hall University and the only technology we had in our dorm room was a brother electronic typewriter and a boom box. Personal computers were unaffordable for a lot of people. Everything was done […]

Turning Collaborative Poem Into Song (but it ain’t no Shanty)

dogtrax on February 17, 2021February 17, 2021

The other day, I wrote about a collaborative poem that folks in #ds106, and #clmooc, and beyond had contributed to. With 106 lines in its construction, the poem has now become a place of possible remix. I had joked at one point at trying to write a Sea Shanty with some of the words (ie, TikTok trend) and yesterday morning, after watching a bunch of YouTube videos of the recent Shanty trend, I was pretty confident that I could remix […]

Idea vs Reality in the Post Pandemic University

agently on February 16, 2021

I’ve been reflecting a lot on how difficult it is to bridge the gap between ideas and reality. This was made clear last week in our discussing of IEHospitality and trauma informed practices, and it is clear in this week’s consideration of the internet. The ‘reading’ (podcast) for this week, “The Internet of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,” is laden with ideas around the world of technology and the internet and the tricky relationship they have with […]

Heads or Tails?

jessielb928 on February 16, 2021February 16, 2021

The reality of the internet has finally come to light this past year. With the global pandemic, no one really noticed the flaws, perks and various angles of the internet. But so much has happened and some of it had been calmed, instigated and balanced with the help of social media and information at your fingertips. This week’s blog post focuses on the good, bad, ugly and the detox that’s needed after dealing with this technological platform day after day, […]

What would Wittgenstein think of remix?

NomadWarMachine on February 15, 2021

We were playing a game at the weekend, which Kevin started. Something you can’t holdOr package in paper and twineBut each of us has it inside usAnd can gift it, any time(I‘m thinking of 4 letter word w/ letters from chart. Take guess. If any letters in guess word are correct, I will capitalize in next couplet) #clmooc #smallpoems pic.twitter.com/F9iTcT5NAT— KevinHodgson (@dogtrax) February 14, 2021 We answered by making an acrostic of the word we guessed until we got it […]

Whisper into the future

Wendy Taleo on February 15, 2021

In this week in the Net Mirror (#NetNarr) Professor Levine is encouraging the use of audio to capture our thoughts. Here I'm playing with audio and using the screen capture feature on Android (Samsung 10) that allows for multiple things: capturing my voice, capturing system sounds, screen annotation, video thumbnail. This would be a very cool way to tell a story using a multimodal approach. This is a cross posting for #WalkMyWorld where I came across the "I Miss My Bar" […]

IEH and Trauma-Informed Pedagogy

mzamora on February 13, 2021February 13, 2021

Thanks to Amber for trailblazing some important considerations as we continue to think about digital citizenship and education in the age of pandemic, and as we dream of a post-pandemic university that is transformed. Here are the agenda slides from our discussion on 2/11/21. Body (in teaching and learning) "Turning people into less then whole humans isn’t just an online problem or a problem of the pandemic. …(The) body isn’t a new theory and neither is the way dehumanizing is […]

Digital Wellbeing

hgatica on February 12, 2021

To start off with, I wanted to share a brief audio story I made at the direction of Professor Alan. We were challenged to write an audio story of our position in relation to class. I’m starting with this first as I feel it will leave a fitting impression to my thoughts this week: [vocaroo id="15YdTSTvvUIi"] https://voca.ro/15YdTSTvvUIi Second, I had listened to Dana Boyd’s podcast The Internet of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. It was an interesting segment […]

Hybrid Hospitality

vickbwrites on February 11, 2021

While reading “Intentionally Equitable Hospitality in Hybrid Video Dialogue: The context of virtually connecting” I found that this is an article that educators should read. As we have now reached a full year of virtual instruction, one may believe that they are aware of the difficulties that hybrid instruction brings, but it is clear that some are aware yet tend to dismiss the difficulties. As we begin to reopen, the article discusses the challenges in hybrid settings and the push […]

Daily Create- A Droodle

sheilak on February 11, 2021

@ds106dc #tdc3318 My response for Today's #ds106 Daily Create is: Since we are breeding everything with poodles these days, why not breed the last surviving dragon from Game of Thrones with a poodle = Droodle pic.twitter.com/mtL89vwjaH— SheilaK (@SheilaK00283745) February 11, 2021

The reading for this week was very informative on the dynamics involved in equity in our new world of living in a virtual world. It was eye opening to see how many potential barriers can get in the way of offering a fair opportunity for people from all different kinds of backgrounds and situations to take place in these new conferences, and to see the steps that are taken by those who are responsible for putting the conference on. The […]

If You’re Stressed, It’s Intentionally Equitable Hospitality We Suggest!

thesunthatruns on February 11, 2021

So, maybe professors won’t sing and dance and do tricks with their fellow professors/ candlesticks, but this week’s reading, “Intentionally Equitable Hospitality in Hybrid Video Dialogue: The Context of Virtually Connecting,” brought Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast to the forefront of my mind. So, let’s put on “Be Our Guest,” set a smile on our faces, and journey into the article and some of the finer points that are not only concerning, but something that needs to be tackled […]
