The Final Stretch

vickbwrites on April 29, 2021

As we reach the final stretch, I can genuinely state that I enjoyed this course. I can recall myself registering for this course, not knowing what it would entail. Although Dr. Zamora had provided insight into the course, I was a tad bit lost, but I took a chance with it, and it has been exceptional. This course has allowed me to reflect on what I and others have encountered during the pandemic rather than through the motions. The pandemic […]

Line of Thought-une Teller

NomadWarMachine on April 28, 2021April 28, 2021

Another line of flight from the lines of thought. As I was playing around with papier mache for the plate, I remembered the flippy clicky things we used to make when we were children – a bit of thinking and Googling revealed that these are called paper fortune tellers or chatterboxes. I found some simple instructions to help me remember how to fold one. These are often done with numbers and colours, so I looked at the words in the […]

Our Wrap Up!

mzamora on April 28, 2021April 28, 2021

So the time has come for us to synthesize our Post-Pandemic University dreams and nightmares in a brilliant collection of tiny tales. So much can be addressed with the power of a story, and so much can be laid bare with speculative fiction. Our collection of PPU tiny tales will be speculative-fiction-as-literature. Your micro- fictions will explore possibilities in a society which may not yet have been enacted, but are latent. Any technology or fantastical element in speculative fiction ought to have […]

Lines of Thought

NomadWarMachine on April 27, 2021April 27, 2021

It started with a tweet #tdc3296 #ds106 Quatrain, pffff pic.twitter.com/JFbUzERd7Y— Sarah Honeychurch (@NomadWarMachine) January 20, 2021 It became a Daily Create T.S. Eliot wrote in his poem The Waste Land ‘You cannot say, or guess, for you know only / A heap of broken images…’. Add your line of thought to this Shared Google Doc #DS106 poem and see if we can get to 106 lines of thought that are a collection of images, not broken. Or tweet @wentale. And then it took […]

Collective Hope

NomadWarMachine on April 26, 2021April 26, 2021

Some collaborations keep giving and giving, making me smile and giving me hope. Last year some of us put together a calendar on the theme of hope – pictures we had drawn, photos we had taken, words we had written. I have it printed out and pinned to my study wall, reminding me of my friends, and my collaborative community. When I saw the call for submissions to the OERxDomains21 conference, I asked Wendy if we might submit something based […]

Prepping for the final

hgatica on April 23, 2021

I’m going to enjoy the concept of the final project, having to write a short-written piece based on the overall theme we’ve been following all semester. We have the guidelines, the parameters, the theming (technology in an academic setting), and the allotted time to do so. It’s been a long time since I’ve written anything creative, I’ve had to put that aside as I’ve worked on other pursuits of life. I am happy to say that coming back to this […]

Introverts in a Pandemic

krock5228 on April 22, 2021

The idea that the pandemic was scary to just about everyone. No one knew what to do. All we knew was that we had to stay home. It is never fun when you are stuck in the house. Introverts through the pandemic, however, may have had an inherently different take on this. They were in their element. This is something that I can relate to a bit myself. Sometimes, on the outside, I may seem as a fairly extroverted person, […]

An Estranged Community

vickbwrites on April 22, 2021

As Gee is the final pathfinder for the Spring 2021 semester, I enjoyed reading and listening to the selected content for this week. The Coronavirus was declared a pandemic in March 0f 2020, but it is apparent that individuals are still overcoming the difficulties that the forceful shutdown has left us with. Pearl Subbon’s “For introverts, the COVID-19 lockdown has an upside” gives insight into individuals who are introverts and their difficulties they may face after the pandemic. The reading […]

Come Apart Together, Right Now!

thesunthatruns on April 22, 2021April 22, 2021

When I was fourteen or so, I was the ugly duckling in my group of friends; I still had my braces on, a really unflattering haircut, zero self-esteem, and I had never been asked out the way every other girl had seemingly been the summer going into high school. I felt like a freak! I got stuck with the chore of doom in our household one summer afternoon; helping my Mom clear out clutter from the basement. For reference, I […]

Post-Pandemic Education for Introverts

M.E. O'Neill on April 21, 2021April 21, 2021

The global pandemic that effectively shut down our society has obviously been incredibly stressful, but for introverts, being stuck at home has some silver linings. Pearl Subban explores how all this isolation has affected introverts in the article “For introverts, the COVID-19 lockdown has an upside.” Subban explains that working and learning from home means introverts no longer need to engage in “self-monitoring” their behavior or “recharge” after exhausting days surrounded by other people. In addition, many introverts who were […]

Speculative Microfiction Stories: The Specs

Prof Alan on April 21, 2021April 21, 2021

We have worked our way through our topical discussions that should inform your final summary task. Here we get creative and will be crafting microfiction stories that can paint a picture about what the experience looks like in a near future Post Pandemic University. Speculative fiction implies the kind of stories we saw in the Screening Surveillance short films (Blaxites and A Model Employee) that are set in a time that could almost be now where surveillance technologies act on […]

Moving Beyond Lockdown

blueknights on April 21, 2021

As I read the article, I cannot help but appreciate the insights put together by the author. For a long time, introverts are misunderstood and overlooked. They are seen as weird members of society who have a world only they can understand. This is a painful judgment from the people who feel superior over the others just because they can express themselves socially. But the stigma has to end now. I admire how this article shed enlightenment to the readers […]

What Do We Mean By Community?

agently on April 21, 2021

At the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic really took the entire world by storm, NPR released an article entitled “Most Americans Are Lonely, And Our Workplace Culture May Not Be Helping”. According to their sources, loneliness had a relatively large leap from 2018 to 2019; this leap encompassed people from all backgrounds, though some groups like women and Boomers were less lonely than men and Gen Zers (paras. 7&9). I decided to look this up after listening to […]

Active Community Living

teacheng on April 20, 2021

As a newcomer to the field of online learning, I believe that each and every opportunity I was presented with I approached with open arms and with a desire to become part of a community. I am more vocal in class than most of my peers and this has given me an identity that has been wonderful – but not without a price. My story of finding community and hope is a tragedy like some. I use writing as an […]

Culminating Community as A“gen”t Z

jessielb928 on April 19, 2021April 19, 2021

For the last blog (which really is the last blog this time, I promise), we end off this semester by recognizing a relationship between a generation and the CO-VID 19 pandemic. A TED Talk by Darcy Dixon highlights the impact of this tragic and life-changing pandemic and how the Gen Z has been affected a little differently than everyone else. But how can this be fixed? Dixon begins with discussing the strong sense of community and how it’s a “vital […]
