Reactions and (W)ritings

So for this week, I’m structuring my blog posts in two halves. The first will be a reaction to reading this week’s reading, and the second I will be sharing a few of my writings based on our pertaining to short writing. To start off with, I enjoyed the information The Post-Pandemic University and the Caring Gap. Of all of the readings so far in this graduate program, this is definitely the most current one as it discusses the lack […]

Setting a course…

We are off to a great start in #netnarr! I am glad we spent a bit of time setting the Course Calendar together. By now, we hav some clear themes and “pathfinding” directions set by each of you. Each selection you made will open up certain critical/urgent questions. the material will help point us towards collective reflections on the pandemic, and future of education as we dream of a post-pandemic context for learning. Pathfinding Please remember, being the “pathfinder-of-the-week” means […]

Tying it all together

Nearly there. This week I spoke to my supervisor and my Graduate School and I have sent off my “intention to submit” by March 31st 2021. It’s almost done- I just need to finish the final chapters and give it a thorough edit. It’s been a long journey – as I scrawled down on a scrap of paper this week, my thesis has gone through changes from looking at collaborative learning, through to thinking about peer interactions and ending with […]

Dead Professors Society

I was a tad skeptical when I saw the tweets being reshared from a student who was (rightfully if true) upset that his university was having dead professors teach classes. It was the macabre right out of a Netflix series idea of the Teaching Dead but then it is amplified by this Slate story, How a Dead Professor Is Teaching a University Art History ClassThe fact that the dead can literally replace living faculty members is a perfect metaphor for […]

An Interesting Ride

When scheduling my courses for the Spring 2021 semester, I was unsure of what I wanted my third class to be. Truly speaking, I was confused about what this class would entail. When Dr. Zamora provided us insight last semester, I didn’t know if this course would be the right fit for me. I then realized “the right fit” usually consisted of a class that I was familiar with, thought would be easy, and wouldn’t challenge me. I decided to […]

Micro Photo Stories

As we are getting in today’s class what I anticipate will be a dynamic introduction to microfiction in our studio visit with Laura Gibbs (hi Laura!), I created this week’s message in a tool aimed at being creative at telling stories in five photos. Five. Random. Photos. My message was created entirely in Five Card Flickr Stories and I copied/pasted the code to display it below. Five Card Story: NetNarr Microstories in Photosa Five Card Flickr story created by Alan […]

Don’t Believe the Hype…

Actually, that song came to mind as a first reaction to all of this. But, now that I got things moving, I can say that not only will I beleive the hype, I will one day teach the hype. I look forward to this class because I end my week in a relm where I can seriously, honestly and totally complete as an equal. Micro fiction is my safe place. I started my career in comic books and I intend […]

POV: You’re ready, Player One

Today, I caught myself thinking about how most people spend their lives in a similar fashion to a washing machine’s rinse-circle-and-repeat cycle. I’m not sure about everyone else reading this, but I’m pretty lazy when it comes to my laundry day habits; I make sure everything I wear (solid colored sweatshirts, solid colored and plain white t-shirts, and jeans) are a wash-cold, tumble dry low sort of thing, and I neer separate my colors and whites. (So far, I’ve been […]

A Step into the Unknown

Back to blogging, back to familiar territory. NetNarr is not a class I thought I would take. To be honest, I registered as a last minute course. Being a Bachelors in Elementary Education, I was keen on taking a graduate course in multilingualism for school but then a week before the semester started, I was made to realize that it was definitely not the course for me. It would force me to revisit things that I was over with; emotionally […]

Post-what?

NetNarr kicks off again and Alan Levine writes this introduction and Mia Zamora adds her launch thoughts. The theme this year is Imagining a Post Pandemic University. Working with students who are not-post but in-pandemic, it will be interesting what will be written in this environment. Mia talks about envisaging a 'way out' and all the paths that might move forward in the education sector. Play and fun is a prime focus and discovery with opportunities to express ourselves in different media.I'm […]

Cautious Optimism for Post Pandemic Education

As both an educator whose first year of teaching was interrupted by a pandemic and a graduate student whose first semester was entirely online, I’m becoming increasingly interested in the relationship between technology and education. The toolbox of digital resources available to teachers and students has been rapidly changing and expanding for years, but the outdated, conservative, and bureaucratic education system hasn’t exactly kept up. The pandemic changed that; suddenly and without precedent, schools were forced to shift instruction entirely […]

Into the Rabbit Hole…

I think like most of my experience in the English-Writing program so far, I am in a state of dazed confusion but intrigue after our first class. I initially wasn’t going to take this course because I was having to decide between a few paths I thought I should take; but in the end, I made the switch both because of listening to this fantastic podcast from the New York Times called Rabbit Hole and listening to Dr. Zamora […]

Launching our experiment!

Here is just a quick note this week to mention that it was “food for my soul” to see you all on Thursday evening, and to launch this 5th iteration of the collaboratory that has come to be known as #netnarr. You had a brief chance to catch up, and we made some new introductions as well. Prof. Levine & I welcome you to put on your creative thinking caps, and walk through the door of our “always open” lab.
