Log# 10: Is the Truth Gone?

Last week I went to Washington D.C. with my mom to go to the National Writing Project spring meeting.  They had a presentation on fake news.  The presenter shared a historic example from the 19th century like the “manbat” rumor, where two scientists that were looking for attention made up a story that said “manbats” lived on the moon.  The funny thing is that people believed it.  It was posted in a historic  newspaper.  But why did people believe this […]

Week 9: Writers and Their Tales

Personally, I did not contribute any of my own unique work this week for one reason: Most of the stories I write are long in length and I am too tasked as it is with school and work to come up with something that wouldn’t be too long-winded for you to read. I like to be detail oriented in all of my work if I am able to, so I’ll be thankful I wasn’t forced to contribute. To begin, I […]

Spilling My Heart: Storied Campus Entry

To be quite honest, this photo is very unflattering to me, and it might have you wondering how a doorway can explain what Kean is really like. Well, let me tell you. For about a year and a half I went to the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. I was a music major, and before I left, I switched my major to English. I had my mind set to go to Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ, but […]

Storytime, though not of the Thomas Sanders variety.

Hey friends! No intro jibber-jabber this week—gonna jump right into the fray since I’m *checks watch* HOO BOY I’M LATE LOOKIT THAT. Before I let you go, though, this lil number is stuck in my head. Feel free to give it a listen. It’s boppy, despite the name. Misnomer alert (ah, I learned that term from A Series of Unfortunate Events, a la the Incredibly Deadly Viper. Good book series. Thoughts of the netflix series make me pull an N face, though.). This […]

Shadow Girl Reflects VI: Sharing

“World building” is somehow a difficult concept to attribute to the world–proper, so to speak. Actually, it’s kind of a hard term to think of the world in/with because the world is built, isn’t it? All around us, there are these constructed and contrived places. Infrastructure and institutions. Spaces with such seemingly benign, or, should I say, obvious stories that even considering them as storied spaces at all is bizarre. Like, I know why the library is in the center of main campus–access and availability. And, […]

Week 9- Becoming a Writer

Well it’s official. I’ve been writing everyday this week, ever since we had class. I have the writers bug. I can’t stop writing and editing poems. I only officially finished one that I posted earlier this week. I was so inspired from everyone. All of the poems were so moving, raw, and inspirational. I cried most of the class. If only I had a poem to read for the class. I really enjoyed everyones poems and short stories. Each person […]

It’s All About Appearances

via GIPHYThis was a good week.  I found myself actually doing this dance a few times. Home was good. Work was good and school was good. All of those things happening at the same time is almost impossible. But the universe was working in my favor.NetNarr class is always enjoyable. I swear I'm not just saying this because I'm blogging for this class. This is a fact. So, this particular really favorable almost epic, no endearing, enlightening. Yes this class […]

My Kean Story

If you Google Kean University Wilkins Theater this is what you'll see. Please notice the seasoned people sitting on the benches and waiting outside. To the outside world this does not look like a place where a 20-30 something, hell even a 40 something person would see a show that they wanted to see. Well let me tell you, that is so not the case. This place is not what it appears to be.On the Storied Campus page I shared […]

Bear With Me

This might be my shortest blog post thus far; I am actually not sure, so let us find out. I am going to play around with two ideas from this past week. One of my ideas has to do with this storied campus business… this ingenious idea that has been presented to my class. If you need the concept explained in cliches then: everything is not what it seems, there is more to this than meets the eye, never judge […]

Pencil and Paper

It is hard to start this story because I am not exactly sure as to where it begins as there are several moving parts. So, let me start at what I think is the beginning. For the next 3 weeks I have the pleasure of having two artists in residents working with my 7th graders twice a week. One day a poet/ actress/ spoken word artists comes in and helps my students express themselves through the written word. On the […]

This is Not a Blog Post… (jk)

....it's a representation of my thoughts and feelings shown on a screen, composed of pixels and magic (probably). I'm sure this is what Magritte meant to say.---Creativity is difficult for me. As much as I love research and scholarly writing, I'm not a creative writer, and I'm sure I've said that before, and I didn't feel comfortable sharing my writing in the last class.I've been trying to figure out why I'm not a creative writer, because I used to be. In […]
