Unfortunately, this is only going to be a tiny sneak peek for the final project. The current plan is exploring the distinction between digital-dualism and augmented reality. As I’ve most likely mentioned before, the concept of augmented reality is introduced as “just a legend” in this is ongoing story that I’m working on for the project. Below is the conversation in which this “legend” is brought up (you can simply follow the replies). The sun shines vivid, the wind blows […]

This week marks our last in class meeting for the 2019 version of Networked Narratives at Kean University, and students are speeding towards the finish line with their end of semester projects.
Well, here we are. This is going to be my final main (Weeklies) blog post for the class. I’ll probably be posting one last Field Guide after this, as a wrap up for the final project, but for the time being… would it be appropriate to act (overly) dramatic? I think I’m getting choked up right now. Ok, maybe not —but you can’t see it, so why not pretend for bonus points? I suppose that this particular post would be […]

So, as consumers participating in a capitalist society, our economy currently depends on our continuous purchase of stuff- the internet of things. How many of our things currently link up to the internet? Over 25 Billion in 2019! And when I say things, I mean everything. Cars, phones, computers, lamps, toasters, sex toys, televisions, refrigerators, as well as services. Your ISP, your utilities, practically anything that uses electricity or generates it is capable of spying on you if it can be hooked up to […]

As NetNarr moves towards the upcoming exhibition of the Field Guide project, this week we participate in a special event, an art exhibit by one of our own classmates.
Is that “a GIF” or “a Meme” in “the digital sea”? Huh… So, it’s not that bad after all. As I continue to work on my final project, my overall view on certain things begin to shift. If anyone were to go back and simply examine my first four or five blog posts, they could clearly see that I held a negative outlook on the internet as a whole. Is it truly a place where “the darkness” prevails as we’re […]
I hope everyone had a great Easter weekend. Mine was filled with laughs, fun at church, reflection, and a lot of food! Now that my Easter weekend is officially over, I am ready to get back in the swing of things. So we are in the final stages of the semester, which means it's … Continue reading “Work Work Work Work” →
This week I'm feeling very good about my field guide project! With more clarification on the task, I feel more and more like I am on the right page.At this point, I have four different sources that Luna P. and I have annotated to help us find light in the darkness. We have been exploring the idea that multiple digital identities by adolescents highlights their need to share versions of themselves online, proving that there is no distinction between "real life" […]
Digital Online Surveillance exists because we agreed to allowing our data to be collected by an external source. (I am not counting the facial recognition software that is being used in China to rank and identify people- that is another discussion entirely.) We clicked agree on a policy. But how many of us know what to look for? How do you read those Privacy Policy Statements and Policies that most of us just skip so that you understand exactly what […]
Hey~ So, suffice to say, this weekend has been a bit overwhelming for me. I’ve spent most of it getting my final touches together for my thesis presentation at Research Days on Tuesday. This weekend was one of the first I’ve had totally off in a while so I got a lot of time to focus on these last-minute-but-very-important things. There’s never enough time for anything, is there? Anyway, as far as my research for the field guide goes, I’m still […]
“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. Education, therefore, is a process of living and not a preparation for future living.” Dewey, Democracy and Education. I’ve been thinking a lot about resilience recently. Not as the ability to spring back up when knocked down (though that can be a good thing). But as the ability to adapt, to look at a new situation and think about how one can apply one’s existing skills. resilience (n.) 1620s, “act […]
