The Gif That Keeps on Giffing…

Hey~ Welcome back to my humble little dark corner of the web ^.^ Hope everyone had a nice enough week~ My week was the usual: Anyway, that brings us nicely to the topic at hand:  GIFs~ soft g don’t @ me i’ll fight you This week, we got to continue our exploration of new forms of digital content creation by discussing the gif. Now, if you’re like most Internet users these days, you are fairly familiar with the gif. Personally, I interact […]

Brian Studio Visit

The studio visit with Brain was funny because as soon as we started our conversation on data and internet,  google took him out. The data cut the speak out right when we were talking about goggle data, that was so cool. He spoke about how the internet is changing from back then and now. I can’t believe that Americans are coming up with a toilette that will know when you are coming into the bathroom, and heat the seat to […]

Gifing

This weeks class was fun because I love making Gif’s they are so cool and very self expressive. Although, there are gifs out there being able to make your own is so cool. Learning how to add a video to make my gif was very exciting because I never knew how to do that so learning how to implement that skill was very fun. Being able to create them allows me to send them out to my friends in our […]

The GIF take over

https://www.lifewire.com/rise-of-animated-gif-3485813 Gif’s have been around for sometime now but recently there seems to be a blow up on Gif’s. This isn’t only used in social media or as a clipart it can be found on tv as advertisement at times. This article How Animated GIFs are Taking Over zooms in on how Gif’s are taking over and what made it blow up. Something interesting that was said was how gifs have a silent message no words are needed and the […]

Making that “Paper” by GIF Commercials

Since I had a long Field Guide post last week, I’d expect this one to be a lot shorter… for a good balance. In fact, why don’t I just wrap it up right here? Thank you everybody for reading, and have a good one! Just kidding. Our main topic of the week was GIFs. I was actually looking through Reddit (of all places on the internet) to find something related, and long behold… I managed to find a linked article […]

The SPLOT Image Truck is Here!

Cue the music… the truck is rolling through your neighborhood, blaring the music, here to deliver random images to all the kids– and the truck is fueled by json. THE SPLOT TRUCK IS HERE! This could be a way for the TRU Collector SPLOT to provide random images that might one day, be an alternative source than flickr for both pechaflickr and Five Card Photo Stories. This would take away concerns over the using flickr as a source (it comes […]

The Search Warrant for Echo’s Data

As I mentioned in this week's blog posts, my students are becoming increasingly concerned over their smart phones and their privacy. To a teenager, their bedroom door use to provide them the utmost privacy and if it was ever removed from it's hinges, as we've seen in so many teen movies and shows, then they felt their live was ending! But I'm happy to say that teenagers are starting to see that their privacy is violated every day thanks to […]

Hard -G or “Giraffe-G”

This week in class, we transitioned from studying memes to studying GIFS (hard -g sound). We essentially began class with a Tweet-a-Thon, where we all tweeted out our favorite or most recents GIFS.  You can see the GIFS I love on my twitter page, but after poking around on GIFHY, I found a few more that I love! Give me a good Real Housewives GIF anyday! After, we had a Studio Visit with Brian Lamb, "Re-Director" of the Learning Technology and Innovation team […]

Getting the Gif of Things~

Hello~ While scouring the Internet for cool gifs, I came across an interesting discussion about gifs, remix, and contemporary Internet culture. How GIFs Became Embedded in Our Culture The discussion is occurs during an episode of a podcast and occurs between Anil Dash (Function podcast commentator), Kenyatta Cheese (CEO of Everybody At Once & co-founder of Know Your Meme), and T. Kyle McMahon (lead digital and social producer from Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen) This podcast episode covers a wide variety […]

Lost in Translation???

Hey~ DDA 304 asked us to play around with the powers (or lack thereof) of translation. We were asked to select a few paragraphs from one of our sources exploring the darkness of the web and translate it (using Google Translate) from English into a few different languages before, eventually, translating it back into English to see if it still makes sense. Essentially, this activity is an exploration of nonsense and the limits of language (my fave topics ^.^). Anyway, I chose to […]

Going In Full Speed (GIFS) {Fieldguide}

A Brief History of the GIF, From Early Internet Innovation to Ubiquitous Relic: How an image format changed the way we communicate by Lorraine Boissoneault (2017) Article Link I think this article would be a great addition to the fieldguide because it shines a light on the more positive parts to the internet and … Continue reading Going In Full Speed (GIFS) {Fieldguide} →

Your Fortune Reads: Don’t Touch Other People’s Stuff!

“Hello, can you hear me?” That was an “interesting” class we’ve had this week; from the topic to its execution. Unfortunately, our professor, Dr. Zamora, was absent (speed recovery!). Therefore, we’ve had an online-based sort of… lesson? Presentation? I don’t really know what to call it. It felt like an online-class that was conducted in an actual class; the best of both worlds, I guess. Our class consultant, and second-in-command instructor, Mr. Levine (too formal?), carried out the entire lesson […]
