Book Review: Design is Storytelling
I never really thought all that much of how designing a physical space or a physical object is really about the invisible art of telling a story. In Design is Storytelling, by Ellen Lupton, that fact comes to the surface — that the decisions we make in creating tangible objects or immersive experiences can have a narrative arc to it. This book was a bit uneven for me, but I suspect I am not its target audience, either. (That seems […]

#NetNarr Twitter Analysis: Where, When, How and …. Why?
I followed a link to a Twitter Analysis tool via Networked Narratives as part of an examination of our digital lives in the spheres of social media. This all connects nicely to the Digital Audit of this month’s CLMOOC. Convergence is nice. The Twitter Analysis tool provides a useful visual glimpse of a single user’s interactions in Twitter. Mine is no surprise. I do a lot of sharing and writing and working in the early morning hours (like, eh, right […]

alive
here we go again!i'm a little sad we're straying away from the "alchemy" theme - i might have to rethink my blog, but i'll keep the title. it's going to be interesting to see where this new perspective on netnarr is heading - we're still dealing with digital identity, but in a different sense. i think it's definitely both an engaging and smart idea that we're watching our own digital footprints, and seeing what tracks we're making. we need to […]

Back Like I Never Left…
Last May when we closed out Spring 2017's semester I thought I had taken my last ride on the NetNarr roller coaster. Now, I'm not saying this because I hated NetNarr. It is quite the opposite actually. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride last year. It was bumpy and unpredictable but overall I learned a lot.I must admit that I missed doing the Daily Digital Alchemy #DDA. So much so that I have yet to do one this year-- it is […]

Back in the saddle!
The time has come to dust off this blog and dive back into NetNarr. It's good to be back in our world, and I'm excited to see what this new semester has to offer. As I mentioned in class, this will be my third time around the block in ENG5085, "New Media Studies," then "Digital Storytelling," and now "Digital Alchemy/Networked Narratives," and each time I have learned something new and exciting about the digital world. I'm especially excited this semester […]

Network Narrative
When I first got to this class I was completely nervous. My hair was in the air, I was bitting my nails “per usual” and my nervous were everywhere. When I first receive the class syllabus via email, I’m like what in the world is going on in this class “LOL”(laughing out loud). What almost gave me a nervous break down was that I found out that you were a virtual teacher and there was no fair warning before hand. […]

Week 2.0: Digital Tracks, Being Tracked, and Tracking Trackers
The internet! It’s free! You can do anything, it’s a global village of connected information! Free! Free!
Well that was some people saw it in the early days. There is a cost for running all the pipes and servers and content creators. Without paying for it directly with fees, we …

New Beginning
This week has been a busy one! Along with the new semester beginning, I also had a root canal, visited some friends, and started lessons with a new student in my private tutoring “business.” Because I knew I’d have so much going on, I made sure to get my set-up and DDAs done during our previous class. I went back into some of the older DDAs (at the time of class) and completed them, and then I did the in-class […]
