Vietnam this past week

We have been here a week now and are getting into the travel mode nicely. Ho Chi Minh City was hot and humid and a good change from the cold back in Vancouver. We were in the streets to celebrate the Under 23 Football win – long time coming for Vietnam football – and the celebration was huge. Scooters paraded up and down the streets with boisterous fans cheering and waving flags. Families on scooters and crowds on the streets […]

*insert cake emoji here*

after watching a few episodes of Brett Gaylor's documentary, Do Not Track, it's only human to feel completely paranoid about your online footprint. knowing that there's technology WITHIN your technology creating a digital profile of you and your interests is unsettling, to say the least, especially if you consider yourself a private person. additionally, it's also a bit skeevy for said technology to sell your information in order for you to use it "freely" - all this time, while we've […]

Everybody’s Watching

Brett and Dr. Zumara was very interesting as we talked to him on google hangout. We discuss the do not track videos that we’ve watch so far. I’ve learned that Brett makes skateboard films which was his very first thing to produce and he loves the internet. I remember someone mentioning privacy is a RARE thing and I must agree that it really is. It’s hard to ignore your favorite item you just got finish looking at and didn’t by, […]

Let Loose

It has been my second week in my Digital Alchemy and Network or NetNarr for the members of the class. It has been an exciting week due to different activities we did in class and the regular activities we do after. For me, it started on Sunday night when I watched Brett Gaylor’s Do Not Track Documentary which is a series of episodes where Brett takes the chance the educate his viewers in tracking on websites we visit and how […]

Digital Footprint? Menza menz.

Let me preface all of this with a definition of the Italian (American) slang word, menza menz. So, this guy defines menza menz as meaning something like "maybe, maybe not." I've always understood it to mean a somewhat non-committal, "what are we gonna do?/there's nothing we can do." Which, either way, is how I feel about the topic of my digital footprint.Sure, it makes me nervous. Sure, I worry that we will become 1984 and every step will be tracked by the […]

Tracked or Naw?

This week was little overwhelming because there was so much to do and so much to digest. The main focus of this week dealt with being tracked on the internet, meaning other parties knowing what your doing on the internet, as well as our role on twitter and the netnarr community! One thing that really interested me as well as frightened me was the videos I watched. I find it scary that when you are online, there are people that know […]

One Trick Pony

I always feel the pressure is on a bit when it’s a Daily Create that I suggested – you’d think I’d have an idea about what to create when I submitted it, but I rarely do. So today, I’ve been thinking about what to do: Nobody wants to be thought of as a one trick pony. But if you had a one trick pony, what would that trick be? Draw it, sing it, write about it. In the end I […]

Can You Hear M–Yeah, Loud & Clear~

The Name of the Game So, I’ve had a bit of a change of heart from last week. It’s come to my attention that I may have been far too ambivalent about my feelings toward online data tracking. More, I believe I let the internet ideals I hold in high regard cloud my judgement of the realities that currently rule the digital landscape. When confronted with the realities of third-party tracking servers and learning algorithms, it is almost impossible to […]

2nd Week of #NetNarr . . . Still Super New :/

Sooooo . . . . After spending all this time thinking I am so tech-savy and up to date, but sadly I  have discovered there -is a whole world out here that is still untouched by my mind.  #NETNARR – a whole online world where people connect to talk about how to connect on the internet in different ways and then see that connection? I think, possibly.  Still trying to gain a definition in my head, but still none the […]

#NetNarr: New Media/Video Game Art Examples

These come from the annotation activity of an article called New Media Art, a chapter from a collection published in 2006. In Networked Narratives, one of the activities this week is to annotate the article and examine the nature of New Media Art (or whatever title it has these days.) I was intrigued by some of the early examples of video games as the source for art, and found two examples referenced in the writing that still live on the […]
