Weekly Reflection

It was a completely awesome experience to hear everyone read and share their piece with the class. I do have to say its hard not to get intimidated when one hears others read their pieces. It’s really hard not to judge yourself and compare your writing accomplishments with others. But I do understand it helps you grow when you listen to what other people are able to do in their own works. Excited to see what we do next.

A MEMORY AND A POEM

MemoryI enjoyed thinking about the memory I shared with my dad on campus. Sometimes, it takes a while for me to think about an idea, but the memory I shared came to me rather quickly. I am not really sure what connection others will make as far as what it says about Kean University as a whole but maybe it can represent Kean being a place of laughter and happiness. Sharing My Poem in ClassWhen our professors told us to bring […]

A Lovely Game of Cards

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Lovely Game of Cards By Anna Bella (Expanded on from http://daily.arganee.world/dda84/ ) I found deck of cards no light but warm. Bored so followed the sound of a lady’s laughter. She bid me take rest and join her for a game. I was sure I would win but she wouldn’t give in. Hours and hours she played her witchery No she couldn’t make it easy. Haunted by hours past with green blood the fire consumed itself and disappeared. My […]
Skin Girl
Drumbeat batters breeze bare-knuckled. Bloody, if it could. Tut-tut-tut transforms the atmosphere into something tormented. Tortured. Just a sliver shy of a scream. I sway to the sound, skin soaking in its scathe. Absorbing the maim and claim. The tug and tear. In the thick of the crowd, illuminated by a mix of fire and faint moonlight, a figure fights the drum’s beating. Twists sharp turns to thwart possession. To prevail. A losing game. Once lured in, that’s it. Other figures clap, […]
Slice of Life (Day 27): Lifting Lines and Making Poems
(This is for the Slice of Life challenge, hosted by Two Writing Teachers. We write all through March, every day, about the small moments in the larger perspective … or is that the larger perspective in the smaller moments? You write, too.) I’ve been know to lift lines, to steal words from other people’s blog posts and write poems as comments, and leave the poem as a gift from a reader. I admit it. I am thief. That’s what I was […]
A David Reading
File this as another lesson in being part of the Networked Narratives class — writing something personal is one thing, but reading it out loud another, and the third (still on my list) yet beyond that. This again like we are finding this course, is something that happens when we let loose a little from the pace of a class defined by objectives and the beat of the syllabus drum, and make room for the unexpected. During our second “bus […]
In-Class Open Mic (Take 2)
Wow!  I cannot begin to express how moved I was by this week’s impromptu sharing session.  It was an unforgettable experience.  So powerful.  I feel so fortunate to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people. I loved what Dr. Zamora said about the perception of Kean University and its students as being “diamonds in the rough” so to speak.  I feel the same way about my town, Rahway, and often try to get that message out there to […]
Shedding Silence
So, my laptop managed to make a miraculous recovery. *killjoys make some noise~* She’s a real trooper. Anyway, that means I finally got around to playing with sound. And, to being frustrated by it. That said, I didn’t really feel a strong pull towards any of the not-to-do-list prompts. I did really like reading one of my works aloud in class this past week, though. So, I decided to run with that and record myself–again–reading my story. Only, this time, with some added sound […]
#NetNarr: So This is What It Sounds Like
Union Lane flickr photo by Mark_Bellingham shared under a Creative Commons (BY-NC-SA) license Last week’s (or was it two week’s ago?) theme in the Networked Narratives was “writing with sound,” and participants were asked to record “found sounds” and then upload them for sharing, ideally at the Young Writers Project site. I had uploaded sounds of my guitar and guitar pick, my dog’s tail wagging and pouring coffee. The second task was to try to use other’s sound to create something […]
