The Guiding Light

The Guiding Light By Anna Bella   I’ve been asleep for hours and awaken to use the restroom. I struggle to get out of my bed and put on my fluffy night slippers and open my door to go down the hall. As I eagerly return through the hallway to go back sleep, I am completely shocked to realize that my room has been closed back in with only a beaming blue light coming through the outline of the door. […]

Between the campus and the cloud

Golden Silk Orb-weaver spiderImage: Wendy Taleo, 2017Somewhere betweenthe campus and the cloudmy stories lie hiddenuntil shared. Clear and loud. This is a continuation of my poem "Somewhere between" that you can read here. This week in Network Narratives we are thinking about the Storied Places. What stories lie within the campus and how can you understand the student experience from these stories? There are 2 physical campuses and 1 virtual 'cloud' campus that are relevant to my learning journeys at the moment. […]

Break Away (3 sound #netnarr story remix)

This is somewhat for Alex, who asked for an example on how to do the 3 sound remix assignment for Networked Narratives. He’s spinning his audio wheels, which I said would likely happen. DONT PANIC! We asked students to record and share three sounds of their morning routine, representing their preparation, transportation, and arrival at school or work- a transition from home to where they spend their days… These were to be shared as a response in the Sounds Tab […]

Inspiration

Class was amazing tonight. An emotional rollercoaster for me. Everyone’s poems and short stories brought me to tears. I could not find anything worth sharing, but I was inspired to write after class. This poem is about my grandmother that I lost 13 years ago. I hope you all enjoy. MAMA It’s been years now, and I still miss you. I remember your sweet perfume. I remember your light brown freckles, Against your pale white skin. I can hear you […]

Week 8: This Noise is Shattering Me

Let me just say that what was expected of us this week made for the most unpleasant week of the semester thus far when regarding this class. All of these audio assignments that we were expected to complete for this week were just too much for me without any prior experience using the using this software and tools. I’ve worked on editing videos before, but that was back in high school for my TV and radio elective class, and and we […]

Hope in the Rubble

Here’s another great dda I decided to respond to. This @AFP photo from Aleppo is one of the most haunting, powerful images I've seen in a long time. A novel in one shot. pic.twitter.com/PbSH1o619r — Ishaan Tharoor (@ishaantharoor) March 13, 2017 This is my fictional account of this moment (imagining how he feels.) Hope In the Rubble By Anna Bella James looked at his old record player remembering how he had everything he had ever needed. He never had to […]

Watchworthy Wednesday: Meet 10 Women Championing Connected Learning

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, let’s turn our attention to 10 women scholars making their mark as champions of connected learning. (Connected learning calls for broadened access to learning that is socially embedded, interest-driven and oriented toward educational, economic or political opportunity. It is based on evidence that the most resilient, adaptive and effective learning involves individual interest as well as social support.) As connected learning advocates, these 10 scholars, among a number of others worldwide, argue […]

Dream Girl

Check this out! helterskelliter “Let’s go to our happy place.” Mommy would say when Daddy’s voice began to hit a certain octave–somewhere between a beastly bellow and a rumbling growl. It bounced off bone.Brokebone–when a slur accompanied it.Sometimes when it didn’t. Mommy told the nurses I was clumsy–a topsy, turvy tot falling head over teapot. Lost in my own little dream land. The nurses never looked as convinced as Mommy did. Hospitals were frequent but transient haunts, us hollow-eyed phantasms […]

Log #9: The Sound of Life

In Week 8 of Networked Narratives, we are talking more about sound.  Therefore, I took a closer look at sound. When I think of sound, I think of everyday normal sounds like footsteps or a conversation.  But when I recorded “ambiance,” it just sounded like a foggy mess of words and noises with no defined subject.  It was background gibberish.  After listening to a track I recorded in Starbucks a few times,  I realized that we take ambiance for granted, and […]

I used to be an Audio Production Major

Yep! You heard it here first, folks. I, Brooke Melissa Levine, was once an aspiring Audio Engineer. I even won a scholarship for it. I know, it’s crazy. So, anyway, when we were talking about this assignment in class, I was very excited to get started! If anyone is reading this, I would like to do a little activity. Please listen to the clip. Each sound describes an activity I do in my day. As you’re listening, write down what […]
