A Letter from Venflr Xexiatgm

Dear Victoria, I can see you have grown as a writer, and as a digital artist. Your journey has just begun. It is time for you to spread your wings, and write, write, write. You should not be afraid or intimidated by what others may say. Just prepare yourself for a long journey. Most writers have to have a good back bone, and a great imagination. I can tell you have both. You must only have the confidence to see […]

Log # 12: Alchemy in Paint

Even though I am a digital alchemist, I also work with other kinds of alchemy. Here are some of my own paintings: This acrylic piece depicts a snowy mountainside in the middle of February. This acrylic piece depicts a snowy forest in the middle of December. This oil pastel depicts a field with a forest in the background. This is an impression of Alexander Calder’s painting of Balloons at the Circus.

Pepsi

It’s interesting after watching the Pepsi commercial that I am actually noticing the conflicts in our daily lives more. My though is… WHAT CAN WE REPLACE PEPSI WITH?? What, instead of Pepsi, can actually help the conflicts the world has. I would like to say acceptance, patience, tolerance, love, and kindness. But I can’t hand someone a can of kindness although it would probably be delicious. The world needs a code word. Or an object. My boyfriend and I have […]

A Song Sung Alongside Another

A parody, I would think, cannot exist without humor- whether it be through intent or execution of such comedy. Without humor, parody is reduced to mocking. It’s a relatively thin line, however, as audience interpretations and delivery may be factors in creating “effective” parodies.  So then, what makes parodies effective?  Or better yet, what purpose do they serve, if any, other than to entertain? I suppose that may depend on a parody’s objective but not necessarily.  For example, a parody […]

Log #11: A Pinch of Homesickness and a New Friend

This week in NetNarr I befriended an imaginative alchemist named Aris Anastos (@Aris_Anastos). He seemed to be from the dying world of #arganee.  He wrote a flavorful story for me called “A Pinch of Homesickness”:  A Pinch of Homesickness Main Ingredients: teacher archaeologist champagne coriander tattoo Spice Pack: 1/8 whisper of disapproval 1/4 pinch of homesickness One day a 17 year old boy was walking down the street, dreaming of becoming an archaeologist.  He was just about to be home when […]

The End of Netnarr is Nigh

It only seems like our fun had only just begun yesterday. This is some kind of hoax. Just an alchemistic (made this word up) trick to deceive us. Ahh, to say goodbye to all these alchemist friends I’ve made will be such a hard thing to do. Of course this is a hoax because digital alchemy/network narratives could never die. Even if technology were to come to an end tomorrow. It’s just apart of the human culture. Collaboration has been […]

Dual Digital Identities

So, I love having multiple online identities and this Netnarr class is allowing us to openly engage in this activity while actively pursuing our education. How about that? Talk about a non-traditional class for sure. But in the past and also  in this class, having many online identities becomes seriously overwhelming. Different emails to check, multiple identities to maintain and people to reach out to/reply to. All of these tasks make being more than one person online very challenging for […]

Too Many Cooks?

Oh goodness gracious me where does the time go? And me, where did I go? Tis been a fortnight since my last entry. I gotta stop writing blog posts in Shakespeare class. Again, I’m late with this entry. Good God. Also that title. Ha. Ha. How long ago was I talking about layers of fiction? Layers are fun to talk about. Layers of meaning. Layers of emotion. Layers of musical composition. Cake layers. I’m hungry. Food. Jam. Ah, here’s the jam of […]

#dda98: Google Translate Roulette

I chose to do the 98th DDA: Google Translate Roulette with a Christian song that I always listen to called “Cornerstone” by Hillsong. I absolutely love this song and it’s melodies, and the words are near and dear to my heart. In addition, most of my coworkers, colleagues, and friends know that I incorporate my african heritage into the things I do even if I do not know all that I should about my ancestor’s culture. I strive to learn […]

Shifts, Expansion, Change.

Our world, relative to this course, is definitely shifting.  Expanding.  Changing its focus.   I am blown away by the amount of planning and thought that went into the design of this class.  I remember trying to decode messages from “intercepted” videos before our first official class meeting…always wondering what they meant or how they would fit into the context of our work. The videos and little hints about our eventual mission were a constant but kept at a comfortable […]

You Kant Make Me Argue Ethics…

Do you have to make it entirely clear when an account is a bot? Is it misleading, or, more, deceptive to keep that information not secret, per say, but not readily available either? Like, what are the moral obligations of bot-creators? Are there any? Is there a kind of digital, moral imperative? Or, more simply, rules of conduct in online spaces that are true all of the time? (Or else how can they be moral imperatives?) These concerns and questions arose not while I […]

I’m me, but who is she? I don’t even know what week it is.

Hi guys.So I don't know if we are still posting to our regular blogs as well but here I go on another post about how I am confused and feel like I'm falling behind...I created an avatar in last weeks class which I thoroughly enjoyed. This other part of ourselves is a confusing process and I hope I'm not the only one who feels this way! I had trouble posting to one twitter account and check that daily... Now we […]

Living in a Bot’s World

I am being held hostage. Kind of like Wanda from Fairly Oddparents but I don't have access to a magic wand.Something happened this week and now my words are not my words. My thoughts seem to be all out of sorts. Things are being tweeted out that I would never say. Ever since I took a trip down the rabbit hole and took a trip to the mirror world. I am no longer myself. Or rather I'm myself and now I […]
