My iphone has had “touch disease” for the past week or so.  The display streaks and flashes.  The touch screen does not respond.  In other words, my phone is useless.  This has lead me down a few paths of response.  At first, I patiently attempted to restore it.  I troubleshooted and researched to no avail. Eventually, I gave up and entered into a short state of suspended denial as I just went on with my life sans phone for a few days.  At this stage, I am […]

There is a common understanding in a traditional classroom setting that there is a formal start date and a formal end date that must be adhered to in order to “learn correctly”.  But in an open course with a “connectivist sensibility”, this carry-over from the 19th & 20th century learning experience is not entirely applicable.  ….Calling all open learners, you are welcome to come and go as you see fit. I want to take a moment to welcome anyone whose […]

What a WONDERful conversation about Alchemy on Wednesday evening with the #NetNarr community.  Kean students (in NJ) and open participants (from all around the world) weighed in collectively on the main metaphor for our open Networked Narratives connected course: Alchemy! What is alchemy?  Catch a glimpse of the enlightening chat we had (and the fun) here:   [View the story “What is Alchemy? Our first #NetNarr Twitterchat ” on Storify] **Coming up:  we will have many twitterchats during this open […]

By now you have possibly caught wind of Networked Narratives – a networked “collaboratory” in digital storytelling.  Our open connected course embraces the notion of being “digital alchemists” as we thoughtfully mix together “elements” of media and storytelling.   #Netnarr is excited to open up new pathways for all different kinds of learners.  People have already started to come from far and wide.  They will come from varying human perspectives and most certainly, from differing experiences.   Welcome 2 Networked Narratives- a LOOM (little open online movement): […]

I am thinking about all the things we cannot see. Things large and small, things gentle and things formidable.  Things floating right by us, things key to the way we live and breathe.  Love is in the air, and the elements, so many memories and molecules, and our countless communications too.   Sound waves, light, numbers and letters, signs and symbols, our loss, our hope, scents left behind. When you think about it, the air is like a library, a record of every life […]

I know that this obsidian holds some kind of power.  I found it on a walk in the West Coast when I was around 20.  It is smooth and dark and weighty and sharp.  It seemed to be waiting for me to pick up. ….What is a sacred object, but a placeholder for mystery and faith in what can’t be seen? People incorporate the divine into their personal landscapes.  Objects can serve as doorways between secular and sacred worlds.  They […]

I love to write, but sometimes it becomes a time challenge for me.  Yes, I do love to write rather lengthly (somewhat scholarly) reflections in the form of blog posts, but that form of blogging takes a bit of time, which in the end prevents me from blogging as much as I really want to.  I will of course continue to write some of these blogs (mostly for my DML Central blog).  But I want to write & share more often, and not […]
