The Network Effect

Day 1 of Watching  “The Network Effect” 70 degrees, Friday afternoon.  I’m sitting outside on my deck feeling particularly relaxed.  I decide check out The Network Effect.  Upon clicking, the website opens to full-screen mode on my laptop.  (I decide against the site’s suggestion to use headphones.)  There’s a slight glare from the sun and I can’t decide if that’s why it hard to focus or not, so I shift my seat.  It’s a little better but I still find […]

Order & Choas, Gif & Meme Style

So it seems as though we had a little jump start in class last week with creating our memes for the week.  I knew right away that I wanted to try La La GIF this week, so I started tinkering early in the week.  I started thinking of how I could relate the order/chaos theme to the school setting (prompted somewhat by Howard Rheingold’s talk about his experience as a child in his mother’s art class and partly by our human graph experience) […]

Hey! You! Scrambled Eggs for Brains!

So the good folks at #netnarr seem to think some of you poor bastids out there get brainblitzed by media overload. Seems unlikely to me. You’re all adults–I’m thinking you have some degree of self-awareness? Nothing I really have to say is going to mean zippity-do-dah to you, but hey! Write this list on a roll of toilet paper and send it to your mother.SANDY’S CIDER HOUSE RULES FOR INTERNET SANITY1. Don’t be one of those peeps who walk around with […]

Gif in the Alchememetrix

(I want to die. The title of this post alone should make clear why. I deserve it.) When I think of memes and gifs, sprinkles come to mind. Miscellaneous. Extra. Tasteless–sometimes… And, usually always unnecessary. But, oh, so delightful. That little dash of pizzazz to brighten your day. Put a teensy smile of your face. So superfluous but so pleasing. Appreciated because they are not necessary. Now, though, it seems sprinkles are becoming a necessity. No longer little pick-me-ups but the only bright […]

Television Review: Abstract (The Art of Design)

I only watched the first episode of this new series on Netflix, called Abstract, which is focused on design across the fields of art. I was curious to see how it might connect to some of the elements we have been talking about in Networked Narratives. And I was intrigued by the first episode, which is about artist Christoph Niemann, whose name I didn’t recognize but whose art I certainly did, as he often does the covers for New Yorker […]

Week 5: Concluding on Sound Alone

I can honestly say that this class is gradually becoming more interesting each time we get together. The topics of discussion seem to be slightly more grounded in rationality and less abstract and that is a quality of work that I can appreciate. I like it when our lessons and discussions are straight to the point, not so ambiguous. Admittedly, this is not the first time I have been given an assignment where I was asked to craft images an […]

Week 6 | Chaos, Order, Internet and Us – Reflection Pt 1/3

Dear #NetNarr ,         This week’s main topic struck home to my digital experience. Asked if I had, a feeling of control in the networked narrative experience – whether I felt lost in the chaos ( ha! ) or maybe, even a combination of both – I was eager to work thru a response. To answer this, in our Digital Storytelling class ( taught by two professors, Dr. Mia Zamora & Professor Alan Levine ) we made […]
