Memes to Net Art- Week 8

We are finally looking into some "brightness" on the internet. We looked at some Net Art last week and was also provided with some links that we can browse our selves. Some pretty good stuff!I am still having trouble figuring out what the "Field Guide" is all about and what I should be researching....The studio session with Alex Saum went well. There was some questions asked about what inspired her to be where she is? It was pretty interesting to […]

From the Dark Room to the Pixelated Light

Say “cheese”! *snap* How is that for a start? Too predictable? Let’s make a game out of it and count how many people actually start their blog posts this way, or at least mention “cheese” at some point. The final number could be the amount of cheese samples we bring into the class on final day… maybe? I don’t know what I’m talking about, really. It seems that at times I merely fill space by talking “nonsense”. Oh, well. Speaking […]

we love stories in this house

Hello friends! For those who had spring break, hope you had a good one. I’m certainly still in vacation mode, so I’m gonna try my best here. We had a lovely conversation last week about memes and I’m pretty sure that’s the most lengthy and coherent commentary I’ve voluntarily given in a class in years. Character development or bout of confidence fueled by thoughts of the impending spring break and caffeine? My money’s on the latter. We also made memes […]

There is a “Meme” in the Air

It looks like we’ve experienced a bit of a tonal shift in our last class. Up until this point, majority of class discussions centered around the concept of “darkness” on the internet. Although the purpose of our discussions is often described as a discovery of “lightness”, I never really felt like we managed to take a big leap toward that goal. We’ve only had some small steps, wandering around the concept. I suppose that we needed to ignite a couple […]

Week 6

I think it was pretty interesting reading up on the selfies in every day life. Now a days that is one of our main sources of pictures put on social media. I personally like selfies however it is also good to get pictures of other things around you and preferably with family and friends that you love. I tend on taking a lot more pictures this year :)

itsa me

(don’t worry i can say that; i’m italian) Selfie culture was the topic this week, and I’m pretty sure I made my position clear in the field guide attempt I just posted, but I’ll sum up: You do you, boo. As long as you’re not hurting yourself or others with whatever it is you’re doing, be it selfies or any other obsession the world can come up with nowadays, be healthy, be safe, have fun. As for kids overusing social media… […]

Lost Memories and Found Imagery of Self

So, the kids are doing something popular in secret from their parents in order to relieve pain, and they can’t seem to be able to stop it. Are we talking about doing drugs? Taken out of context, that’s exactly what it sounds like. I immediately thought of that analogy during our class discussion about secret instagram sites but I did not wish to bring it up because it does sound too concerning (and possibly extreme for some people). Still, when […]

The One-Sided Looking Glass…

Hey~ This week was an interesting one for me. In class, we began delving into the selfie and into concepts around self-representation in the digital age. My fave topic~ Waxing Poetic on the Selfie (Take 50 Bajillion) For those who may be unaware, my thesis project revolves around self-representation in the digital age. Specifically, I’m investigating this subject through a Neo-Dada lens, analyzing emergent forms of digital content creation as new forms of not only self-expression but also as representative […]

Woo Hoo! Represent!

Represent- A phrase showing acknowledgment to one's background, home, social group, or original place of residence. Also similar to giving a Shout Outto one's homeboys. (Urban Dictionary) The definition above is what I think about when I hear the word "represent," and then the other forms such as self-representation. It was refreshing to learn about knowledge and insight into … Continue reading Woo Hoo! Represent! →

There Is No “NO” Button…

This post may be late because it’s a certain snarky blog poster’s birthday on Sunday, the 24th…. Hello~ Welcome back to the hellscape ^.^ This week, we’re exploring the circumstances that led to a post-truth Internet and the creation of a platform that is responsible now, more than ever, for spreading more “fake” content than real. Strap in! There Are Only “Okay” Buttons In this day and age, I think it’s a given for most of us to believe that […]

Real or Fake? Or…is the Fake Real? Is the Real Real? HELP!

“A world suffused with deepfakes and other artificially generated photographic images won’t be one in which “fake” images are routinely believed to be real, but one in which “real” images are routinely believed to be take-simply because in the wake of the Inversion. Who’ll be able to tell the difference?” -Max Read This was a … Continue reading Real or Fake? Or…is the Fake Real? Is the Real Real? HELP! →

nothing is real but, like, *shrug*

The first thing that I think of when I look back on what middle school taught me about finding appropriate sources is that you should only trust sites on “.edu” and “.gov” domains. ( Now, consider the fact that Present Day Me views both the education and governmental systems to be largely working against the general public, and you can see a bit of a conundrum here. Basically, the whole world is fake. No system is helping you 100%. Time […]
