Breathe

In the spring of 2021 I participated in “Elder Circles: Fierce Words of the Third Age”, StoryCenter’s (storycenter.org) first workshop for those over 60. I joined founder and Executive Director Joe Lambert and Linda Parris-Bailey, playwright and Founder of ParrisBaileyArts.com, who also served as the Executive/Artistic Director of the Carpetbag Theatre for 45 years, in a six-week workshop to examine stories of life as an older adult. The screenshot (above) of the Google Site I made for the workshop explains […]

Storytelling

I returned to StoryCenter in Berkeley this week to participate in a Digital Storytelling workshop. It’s been five years since my first workshop there. I returned to community college as a non-traditional (adult) student after President Obama urged displaced workers to update their skills in his first State of the Union address. I had such a terrible experiance in Oakland’s Peralta Community College District I was inspired to become a student leader. That led to being invited to a New […]

So, my laptop managed to make a miraculous recovery. *killjoys make some noise~* She’s a real trooper. Anyway, that means I finally got around to playing with sound. And, to being frustrated by it. That said, I didn’t really feel a strong pull towards any of the not-to-do-list prompts. I did really like reading one of my works aloud in class this past week, though. So, I decided to run with that and record myself–again–reading my story. Only, this time, with some added sound […]

vermont buses and jersey trains

Last week, we had the privilege of getting to join the Young Writers Project in a webinar to talk about their community and writing, as well as to hear from some of the members of YWP and others, such as a sixth grade class and one of our fellow alchemists on our NetNarr tour! Before that, we got to take some time exploring the website and getting a feel for the YWP community, as well as the voice of today’s […]

A Jar of Salsa

A lot of my personal interests and projects have happened to coincide with elements of this Digital Stroytelling/Networked Narratives course, and this week is yet another entry for the list.  A friend and former coworker of mine from the Writing Center (she has since graduated and begun her teaching career) have been planning to make a podcast for quite some time, and this weekend we finally met to cement some details for it.  We’re calling our project A Jar of […]
