Featured Image credits to Serkan for making such a cool custom gif! Hey~ So, I made it to the end of the semester. More, I somehow made it to the end of my graduate program!!!! I’m going to have my M.A. in like two weeks??? I mean, I have to wait for the actual degree to be mailed to me but the ceremony of it all is happening in two weeks!!!! It has not exactly been smooth sailing. But, I managed not […]
masooch94 on This semester has been quiiiiite an interesting one, haha. I started off not even realizing I was taking Netnarr again and ended with a amalgamative journal entry about fandom and K-pop while talking to myself. We’ve… come a long way, huh. Regarding new skills, I think this semester I’m most proud of the fact I got my bot, @fab_euphie, working. She ain’t perfect, but she’s functional, and boy if that ain’t the mood of the year. Anyway kudos to Kelli […]
Hey~ So, suffice to say, this weekend has been a bit overwhelming for me. I’ve spent most of it getting my final touches together for my thesis presentation at Research Days on Tuesday. This weekend was one of the first I’ve had totally off in a while so I got a lot of time to focus on these last-minute-but-very-important things. There’s never enough time for anything, is there? Anyway, as far as my research for the field guide goes, I’m still […]
masooch94 on … Title in progress … Hi AUC students! My project will be focusing on, the good and the bad of fan culture or fandom, specifically in the music industry, and even more specifically in the K-Pop music industry. Kind of an exploration of these niche cultures, of fandom culture, and fanaticism in general. I hope to be able to: give somewhat of a How To/Check Yourself guide in regards to appropriate fandom behavior, promote those who see dangerous behaviors like […]
Hey~ How’s Cairo? Hot? Mild? Does it ever get sandy in the city? I’ve always wondered…. Anyway, I’m getting off topic. It happens. I hear you’re working on projects about digital literacy? So have we! …Well, kind of. We’re each researching a problem associated with the Internet and increasing digitization of daily life. The focus of my research is social curation in online spaces. Specifically, I’m looking at how social curation in online spaces affects our emotional engagement IRL. I wrote […]
masooch94 on It’s not a question. I’ll be real, I didn’t make a bot for my alchemist. I’ll attempt to work on that soon, but in the meantime, I’ll make sure to post enough so Euphie seems relatively alive. Though to be honest I feel like she’s more of a lurker and responder than an active poster. Big shrug. EDIT: this is euphie. i hacked her account again. she doesn’t know how to close a window. in response to her call out, ahem, […]
masooch94 on Alright. So. I’m just gonna jump in about my topic. We’ll make this as clean cut as possible. No fluff. Ya gurl is Tired and has a lit review due in two (2) days. As I mentioned in my previous field guide post, I was leaning towards and am now 100% committed to (aka like 10 sources deep in) the examination of fandom culture and obsession with a focus on K-pop, “stan,” and “sasaeng” culture. (A bit lost? Don’t worry, […]
Hey~ Hope everyone had a nice week. I’ve been pretty stressed this past week myself. It’s crunch time for my thesis project and I’m feeling the pressure. I’m trying not to take it out on unsuspecting folk but please excuse me if I do. I’m cranky and I need a twenty-thousand hour nap. Anyway, this week we began the treacherous trek into the world of Twitter bots. Honestly, I love bots and designing them is a lot of fun. Certain changes to Twitter’s […]
So, upfront, this is my blog. If you’re looking for commentary or “dialogue” about the content on my blog, I’d peruse the margins… Discussion Hello~ Hope everyone had a nice and healthy week. I’m back up and kicking. This week, I got the chance to catch up on a lot of work. One of the things I needed to work on apparently was refining my idea for the field guide (aka my research project(?)). After discussing my thoughts with Dr. Zamora and […]
Despite what my featured image says, I was, in fact, not feeling okay. Hey~ I’m glad to report that I’m not yet dead. glad may be an overstatement but eh I’d like to get my M.A. first after all the trouble Unfortunately, though, I have been very sick for the past few weeks. Flu. Upper respiratory infection. 103 degree fever. Hacking every other minute. congestion. insomnia. The whole nine yards. It can really slow you down. I tried my best to work through it. My […]
Hey~ Sorry I couldn’t join everyone in class this week. Unfortunately, I’ve been very sick lately and apparently it’s getting worse before it gets better. I would not have been my usual pleasant presence had I been in class in-person this week. Anyway, I am sorry I missed getting to discuss different ideas for the field guide with everyone. I’m sure that would’ve been fun and constructive ^.^ As far as that subject goes, btw, I am thinking of focusing on […]
masooch94 on Welp. Here we are. A blog post put up days early. Who am I? I’m stressed is what I am. I’m several days ahead yet way way behind is when I am. So let’s just move on. We’ve got a bunch of things to cover today. Field Guide You might’ve noticed the post I got up yesterday about the field guide final project. It has pretty much everything there is to be said about where I’m at this week for […]
masooch94 on It’s that time of the semester, folks. The time when we have to pick our topics for The Final Project–in this case, the weekly-aforementioned field guide we’ve been gathering sources for. In class, we were tasked with perusing through those sources, thinking back on previous class discussions, and starting to brainstorm the topic we wanna focus on for our sections of the field guide. And so we did. And after perusing and thinking, I came up with: I remember getting […]
masooch94 on Hello. I am joining you currently several hours later than I originally wished to. Chances are this won’t get up til after midnight. I’m just gonna say please be kind to your friends on April Fool’s Day. That’s it. So last week we had a few technical issues but we pretty much had a GIF (hard “G”) party. Just shared a bunch of GIFs we were familiar with. Here’s the posts I made: I sent this gif to my friend […]
masooch94 on GIFs. With a hard “G.” We love em, especially when they’re relatable, iconic, and not pronounced like a peanut butter brand. I suppose for this field guide, what’s needed is a modern(ish) overview of how GIFs are used, where they’re used, and how set in our everyday social media usage they are. I came across the article, “How Animated GIFs Are Taking Over” by Elise Moreau, which gives that overview that I was looking for. It gives examples of how […]
