It’s Alright… I’m Alright: A Reflection

Dear Oresia, I honestly do not know where to start. Well, I guess I do; thanks you for your letter and kind words. I, too, feel like the alchies of arganee and the goaafies can learn to coexist. I am certain we will all continue to collaborate together and make beautiful art that can surely change these worlds around. I am excited to come visit you this summer! However, I feel I must get some things off of my chest. […]

#dda98: Google Translate Roulette

I chose to do the 98th DDA: Google Translate Roulette with a Christian song that I always listen to called “Cornerstone” by Hillsong. I absolutely love this song and it’s melodies, and the words are near and dear to my heart. In addition, most of my coworkers, colleagues, and friends know that I incorporate my african heritage into the things I do even if I do not know all that I should about my ancestor’s culture. I strive to learn […]

Spilling My Heart: Storied Campus Entry

To be quite honest, this photo is very unflattering to me, and it might have you wondering how a doorway can explain what Kean is really like. Well, let me tell you. For about a year and a half I went to the University of New Haven in West Haven, CT. I was a music major, and before I left, I switched my major to English. I had my mind set to go to Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ, but […]

Bear With Me

This might be my shortest blog post thus far; I am actually not sure, so let us find out. I am going to play around with two ideas from this past week. One of my ideas has to do with this storied campus business… this ingenious idea that has been presented to my class. If you need the concept explained in cliches then: everything is not what it seems, there is more to this than meets the eye, never judge […]

Dream Girl

Check this out! helterskelliter “Let’s go to our happy place.” Mommy would say when Daddy’s voice began to hit a certain octave–somewhere between a beastly bellow and a rumbling growl. It bounced off bone.Brokebone–when a slur accompanied it.Sometimes when it didn’t. Mommy told the nurses I was clumsy–a topsy, turvy tot falling head over teapot. Lost in my own little dream land. The nurses never looked as convinced as Mommy did. Hospitals were frequent but transient haunts, us hollow-eyed phantasms […]

Can You Hear Me Now?

Okay, so we’re back.  Not only was I completely checked out during Spring Break, but these couple of weeks back  weren’t necessarily that great. There is a lot going on, and I am constantly under a lot of stress. I get the sense that I am not the only one less than thrilled to be back in the swing of things, but not because I don’t enjoy the course… there’s just a lot going on. I hate not being able […]

The Network Effect and other little things.

MEMES & GIFS You thought I was going to start with the Network Effect site didn’t you? Hehe, sorry no, but if you haven’t checked it out please do. Click here. Within the past week, the class was asked to create some of our own media content. It was a fun experience, especially seeing what my other classmates were able to curate, and even replying to their gifs with more gifs. I will link to some of my favorite memes […]

Sound: Unclogging the ears; closing the blinds on poetry.

SOUND *Adele’s voice* Hello, it’s me! Let’s roll right on in and waste no time. Sound… it’s everywhere right? Sometimes I long for an unearthly quietness like Jad Abumrad mentions in his talk about radio and empathy, but that’s not really reality. Let me take a moment to backtrack, and touch on the video clip from Good Will Hunting with only the audio. The minute I pressed play, I wrote down “wind” on my piece of paper. Then, I wrote down […]

*sings* You Better Shape Up

Okay, so the gif above might not exactly have anything to do with the shaping that I am going to be talking about in a second, but come on… GREASE! Talk about a story eh? Anywho, hello inhabitants of Earth! This week I have been asked to think about the shapes of stories because there’s obviously a ton, right? I appreciated the humor in the video of Kurt Vonnegut as he gives this brilliantly sarcastic presentation of a few far […]

Picture This!

STORYTIME The first and most prevalent aspect of this week’s blog post is the five card flickr story assignment. My most visceral reaction to this assignment was that of frustration. I had major writer’s block, and I could not drum up anything in my mind. I probably stared at the five photos that I chose for an hour trying to come up with something. There were bits of thoughts, coupled with pending images and metaphors floating around in my brain, but […]

Up, Up, and Away!

“I define connection as the energy the exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgement; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship”  -Brene´ Brown The first day of class was hard to get through; there was an overflow of information that sounded very much like a persistent chainsaw in my right ear. This past week, though, didn’t feel like that at all. I now unsurprisingly find my […]

Questioning

The truth is… I have no idea what Digital Alchemy is. To my understanding alchemy is some sort of medieval form of chemistry. Was it only about turning lead into gold? Maybe this can sum it up? Probably not. It might have just been about this notion of transmutation where one thing is turned into another, but as far as I know, that could be anything. William H. Gass once said: “The true alchemists do not change lead into gold; they […]
