Self-Assessment 2019

This semester has been quiiiiite an interesting one, haha. I started off not even realizing I was taking Netnarr again and ended with a amalgamative journal entry about fandom and K-pop while talking to myself. We’ve… come a long way, huh. Regarding new skills, I think this semester I’m most proud of the fact I got my bot, @fab_euphie, working. She ain’t perfect, but she’s functional, and boy if that ain’t the mood of the year. Anyway kudos to Kelli […]

To the AUC Students – Fan Culture & Obsession: Finding the Thin Line Between ‘Super Fan’ and ‘Stalker’

… Title in progress … Hi AUC students! My project will be focusing on, the good and the bad of fan culture or fandom, specifically in the music industry, and even more specifically in the K-Pop music industry. Kind of an exploration of these niche cultures, of fandom culture, and fanaticism in general. I hope to be able to:  give somewhat of a How To/Check Yourself guide in regards to appropriate fandom behavior, promote those who see dangerous behaviors like […]

to bot or not to bot

It’s not a question. I’ll be real, I didn’t make a bot for my alchemist. I’ll attempt to work on that soon, but in the meantime, I’ll make sure to post enough so Euphie seems relatively alive. Though to be honest I feel like she’s more of a lurker and responder than an active poster. Big shrug. EDIT: this is euphie. i hacked her account again. she doesn’t know how to close a window. in response to her call out, ahem, […]

field guide 2.0

Alright. So. I’m just gonna jump in about my topic. We’ll make this as clean cut as possible. No fluff. Ya gurl is Tired and has a lit review due in two (2) days. As I mentioned in my previous field guide post, I was leaning towards and am now 100% committed to (aka like 10 sources deep in) the examination of fandom culture and obsession with a focus on K-pop, “stan,” and “sasaeng” culture. (A bit lost? Don’t worry, […]

DDA SPREE (oh and chattin’ with Euphie)

Welp. Here we are. A blog post put up days early. Who am I? I’m stressed is what I am. I’m several days ahead yet way way behind is when I am. So let’s just move on. We’ve got a bunch of things to cover today. Field Guide You might’ve noticed the post I got up yesterday about the field guide final project. It has pretty much everything there is to be said about where I’m at this week for […]

field guide 1.0

It’s that time of the semester, folks. The time when we have to pick our topics for The Final Project–in this case, the weekly-aforementioned field guide we’ve been gathering sources for. In class, we were tasked with perusing through those sources, thinking back on previous class discussions, and starting to brainstorm the topic we wanna focus on for our sections of the field guide. And so we did. And after perusing and thinking, I came up with: I remember getting […]

jam (soft “G”) packed

Hello. I am joining you currently several hours later than I originally wished to. Chances are this won’t get up til after midnight. I’m just gonna say please be kind to your friends on April Fool’s Day. That’s it. So last week we had a few technical issues but we pretty much had a GIF (hard “G”) party. Just shared a bunch of GIFs we were familiar with. Here’s the posts I made: I sent this gif to my friend […]

field guide attempt 0.5

GIFs. With a hard “G.” We love em, especially when they’re relatable, iconic, and not pronounced like a peanut butter brand. I suppose for this field guide, what’s needed is a modern(ish) overview of how GIFs are used, where they’re used, and how set in our everyday social media usage they are. I came across the article, “How Animated GIFs Are Taking Over” by Elise Moreau, which gives that overview that I was looking for. It gives examples of how […]

short, sweet, and (kinda) artsy

Hello hello. Looks like this week we progressed from memes to Art. Net art. Digital art. Electronic art. I’m not gonna lie, this will probably be a relatively short post this week, mainly because we didn’t really have a Big Project to work on over the week. So here I am, with a few DDAs and an anecdote about digital art and electronic literature. here u go uwu Let’s get started. So in class last week we had a lovely chat […]

field guide attempt 0.4

Before I get into anything, I just wanna say that yes, I am sort of neglecting the field guide prompt for this week’s post. I just… It’s not often that you find a pure beam of wholesome light on the internet and I just Need to share it with y’all. This morning (or maybe it was yesterday,,, the days are blurring in that way that only mid-semester days can,,,) in my Daily News Twitter scrolling, between a text meme and […]

we love stories in this house

Hello friends! For those who had spring break, hope you had a good one. I’m certainly still in vacation mode, so I’m gonna try my best here. We had a lovely conversation last week about memes and I’m pretty sure that’s the most lengthy and coherent commentary I’ve voluntarily given in a class in years. Character development or bout of confidence fueled by thoughts of the impending spring break and caffeine? My money’s on the latter. We also made memes […]

field guide attempt 0.3

Ah yes, the biggest meme trend that I have vehemently subscribed to. Self-deprecation and destruction. Which is why I nearly cackled out loud when I saw Why millennials are making memes about wanting to die in the list of additional meme info sources on the meme page in NetNarr’s Book of Stuff. Reading through it, the first thing that caught my eye was Dadaism. So, firstly, shout out to Kelli. Please see her and her posts for more intelligent commentary and […]

itsa me

(don’t worry i can say that; i’m italian) Selfie culture was the topic this week, and I’m pretty sure I made my position clear in the field guide attempt I just posted, but I’ll sum up: You do you, boo. As long as you’re not hurting yourself or others with whatever it is you’re doing, be it selfies or any other obsession the world can come up with nowadays, be healthy, be safe, have fun. As for kids overusing social media… […]

field guide attempt 0.2

So last week, we talked about selfies. Had a whole debate about selfie culture and validation and narcissism yadda yadda yadda crazy millennials blah. So for this week’s field guide post, I went searching for some modern takes (as in, like, last week or something) on selfie culture. Something aside from the “all millennials are narcissistic” narrative. Didn’t find exactly what I wanted, but I’m pretty sure I found something better. My search brought me to this video, “Selfies, Millennials, […]

field guide attempt 0.1

Alright, so I’m less lost on how to go about working on this field guide collection of resources… but I’m not sure how helpful I’m gonna be regarding finding said resources to use regarding the darkness of the internet. I can barely find my glasses in the morning. And half the time they’re on my face. BUT. We’ll give it the ol’ grad school try. One thing that really stuck out to me this week was the “eating spiders in […]
