We have been shrouded in mystery. That’s by design! But today we are releasing the Networked Narratives “spine” that defines the shape of the open course that starts the week of January 16.

Typical courses will have a familiar syllabus or schedule, but as you will see unfolding soon, nothing about Networked Narratives will be typical. The idea of a spine is that it defines the structure and framework of a structure or even our own bodies, but is also flexible.

We have devised a structure where each month we have a different theme and set of activities. The students registered for a digital storytelling course at Kean University will be there for the entire length of spine; the same activities will be available to open participants as well.

This is not a course of live video streams from a classroom or canned lectures by professors sitting in front of bookshelves. There will be live events in February and March, but they will take place out in the world; we are even launching a tour bus.

Some exact details are to be hung on the spine, but you can now get a sense of what we are doing, when, and then you can pick where you want to join in.

Interested? Curious? DO you want to explore the idea of being a digital alchemist, crafting stories with the elements and elixers of words and media, connected via the web? Here’s what to do…

Alan Levine
Alan Levine feels weird writing about himself in the third person. A 1990s pioneer on the web and early proponent of blogging, he shares his ideas at CogDogBlog.com. His interests include web storytelling (#ds106 #4life), mocking MOOCs, daily photography, bending WordPress, and randomly dipping into the infinite river of the internet.

  1. Why the heck IS @cogdog referring to himself in third person? Maybe that is the Alchemical Way? Lady Sandy Brown Jensen Brown Jensen lifts her floor length medieval kirtle two inches to step curiously and confidently into the mysterious digital laboratory of @netnarr and waits for the rockets to ignite…

    1. Who is this @cogdog you speak of? What do know of his true identity? And do you have what it takes to be a digital alchemist?
