The Best Lure When You’re Hunting for Clicks is…

A bait! (Is this title considered a “clickbait? I wonder…) In my other blog post, I’ve briefly talked about the concept of clickbait. It’s something of a “hot topic” these days. I figured that maybe I could find something useful to share for our Field Guide. Thus, I decided to do a search on google (talk about enthusiasm). The first source I’ve stumbled upon was this intricate and intelligent (sounding?) PDF file: https://vaibhav4595.github.io/files/Multimodal_Clickbait.pdf It was very constructive. Developing Digital Literacy (One Video at a Time)~

Hey~ Welcome to this week’s bonus post ^.^ I’m going to try to keep it short & sweet! Do Algorithms Get Scared?

The e-lit piece from last semester, called ScareMail Generator, is a prime example of how to cover your tracks on the Internet. Since I did not choose to talk about it back then, I assume it’s fair to do it for this particular post. ScareMail Generator is basically a program that adds “a narrative containing a collection of probable NSA search terms” at the end of an e-mail “in order to disrupt [their] surveillance”. In our last class, we were […]

Field Guide 0.0

I’m not 100% sure how I’m gonna go about even figuring out how I wanna contribute to this field guide project for the end of the semester. I think I’ll be needing a bit more explanation and discussion of the project in general before I start planning things, y’know? Sounds reasonable, I think. Can’t say the same for my thesis. Time’s a’tickin. Buuuuuuuut I’ll figure it out. Always do. Anyway, I’m also a little fuzzy about these additional posts we have […]

I’m Unique…Like Everyone Else

If anything, delving into online data tracking has made it readily apparent just how much of our information is, well, readily apparent. Just about every application you could conceive of using is tracking you to some extent. Don’t believe me? Sounds far-fetched? Well, there are plenty of sites you can explore that will break down for you how different forms of online data tracking work. This week, were provided a list of different sites in the class blog post that let […]
